The heavy duty steel construction from the German craftsmen makes this 45mm blade long-lasting and reliable.
The toothed edge is perfect for roughing your bow stave to get it ready for gluing your laminations and backings. The grooves (or scratches) give the glue something to hold onto, creating a better bond when compared to a smooth surface. It's great for gluing bamboo or hickory backing to an Osage stave.
The toothing plane blade does not cut a curl like a regular plane blade, but instead cuts threads of wood the width of its blade. A toothed edge allows you to ignore grain direction and work your wood surface in any direction. You can go with the grain, against it, or across it. The teeth don't dig and tear the wood like the blade of a regular plane might.
The tooth plane blade is designed to be installed in atoothing plane body (not included). There is a section on constructing a toothing plane in Dean Torges Hunting the Bamboo Backed Bow DVD (sold separately).
The blade measures 1/8" thick, and approximately 7-3/8" long x 1-3/4" wide. Weighs approximately 8.7 ounces.
