What does it mean to shoot a bow "off the knuckle"? Shooting off the knuckle means the arrow rests directly on the bow hand rather than on an arrow shelf or elevated rest. This traditional method is commonly used with primitive bows and historical longbows. Many archers who shoot off the knuckle use a bracer with a built-in bow glove to protect the hand and provide a smooth surface for the arrow to pass over.
