What does shooting off the knuckle mean?  Shooting off the knuckle is a traditional archery style in which the arrow rests directly on the bow hand rather than on a shelf or arrow rest. Common on primitive bows, selfbows, longbows, and many historical reproductions, this method offers a direct connection to the bow but can expose the hand to fletching contact during the shot. Many archers who shoot off the knuckle wear a bow glove to protect the back of the hand and improve comfort during extended shooting sessions.
