How They are Made
Step 1: Premium grade Port Orford Cedar shafts are thoroughly checked for spine and straightness by 3Rivers staff before being shipped out. Shafts are checked again once delivered to Tred's arrow builder. Only then do the raw shafts qualify for the Barta Dream Arrow.
Step 2: The Dream Arrow finish, without question, is Tred's dream. It is an absolutely magnificent and unbelievably labor intensive process. The finish starts by marbling with many different natural stains, each arrow is different and blended differently depending by the time of year and availability of these natural stains and density of grain of shaft. Example of stains are; crushed prunes, strawberries, blueberries, boysenberries, hackberries, Kinnikinnick, gooseberry, wild plums, etc. Thus start the base stains of the marbling.
Step 3: The shaft is then checked for straightness a 4th time. Now, the shaft receives eight coats of clear gasket lacquer sealer being dipped and hand brushed with a day drying period per coat. Steel wool is wiped down between each dipping to insure richness of final product.
Step 4: Wild turkey feathers are split by hand, bases sanded, and cut to Barta signature 5¾" length in a Pope & Young cut, in honor of these great traditional archers. Feathers will all come right or left wing helical depending on availability of acceptable wild turkey wing feathers.
Step 5: Now the finished shaft is fluted perpendicular to the grain. Arrows are then hand spun prior to being bound with silk thread.
Step 6: Each arrow is hand buffed with a super fine compound and hand waxed for a final luster. This is a Barta Dream Arrow, so it must look its best!
