Just got the bow today (B Bulbinga with #3, 40# limbs, 64") and only shot it about 100x, so I might ammend this review later. It was SO easy to snap together and set up! The quality is superb, everything fit perfectly. I tuned it for 400 gr. arrows and a bow quiver. The accuracy was spot on and SMOOTH. This is a perfect travel model. I was intending to shoot my Black Widow in tomorrow's club shoot, but now going to shoot this one. All the 2013 Bear bows I've shot recently, the 59Kodiak, Grizzly, Montana, Super Kodiak GG, and this one have all been top of the line quality. I have not seen or heard about any of the negatives mentioned elsewhere in these reviews. But as with all makes and models, nobody is perfect.

Please Note - the following comments are not intended to reflect on 3Rivers. I have always been completely satisfied with their customer service. Including this incident.

Well, I got the 3Rivers catalog in January and looked at the Bear Take down bow, as I always do.... I have been trying to get a used one for some time without success. Anyway I finally gave in and ordered one.

I just got it a few days ago. It sure was perty. I took it out back to see how it would do. And it didn't disappoint.

That is, till the bottom limb delaminated after less than 50 shots and nearly took out my left eye

I bled like a stuck pig and had a mega headache.

The next day I contacted Bear Archery to see what they would do for me. My suggestion was that they pay for a custom set of limbs from Rose Oak Archery. What I got was a disinterested apology and an offer for another set of limbs.

Normally another set of limbs would be ok. Except that this is the second bear bow in a row to do this to me. And after examining the failure it appears to me that the failure was due to poor glass preparation (sanding) or poor glue application. Same as the first bow.

I have it on good authority that the bow I received was one of the first bows that went out this year. Why so long to ship a bow? I think they are having personnel troubles in the factory...

So I said no thanks to their offer. I have returned the defective limbs to 3Rivers for a refund. And I have ordered a set of custom limbs from Rose Oak.

I am a Fred Bear Fan. And I wish his company the best. But I thought I should pass on this story in case others are considering the bow, or have had troubles.

Considering the fact that a bow stores enough energy to kill somebody, or at the very least severely injure them, I was disappointed in Bear's disinterest in the premature failure, or the injury it cause me.

I don't mean to sound like sour grapes. I hope I'm the only one this has happened to, and it won't happen again. But it marks the last time I will ever turn the 3Rivers Catalog to the Bear Archery Page.

        Comments about Bear Takedown Recurve:

I purchased this bow after a friend let me shoot his. My 1970's era Super Kodiak is now the backup. The bow shoots great. I had trouble at first as the top limb pin did not align with the bushing so I reamed the brass and it then went together ok. I have shot the bow quite a bit now and am very impressed.

        Comments about Bear Takedown Recurve:

I live in the UK and we have to go to foreign shores to hunt with the bow I wanted a take down bow for ease of transport to take with me, a friend of mine recommended this bow to me, not the most expensive, nor the cheapest, but a lot of bow for the money.

        How right he was !

A riser with no.3 limbs at 60" and 50lbs at my full draw (27"), the Bubinga model, from 3Rivers.

I originally ordered the black maple version from a UK dealer and ended up cancelling the order, the bow arrived after a 3 month wait and was advertised in the sale section at a very good price, so I now have both versions of this bow.

However they are as different as chalk and cheese !
I shoot carbons at 461gn for field and 540gn for hunting, they both shoot these arrows well for the given task, but the black maple has the edge when it comes to the hunting arrow, it seems to have more authority, it's probably the difference in the limb material.

The only problem I had with the bow was the supplied string, it would not give me the brace height parameters for this combination of limbs and riser. A visit to the Tradgang website gave me good info. so I made my own 57" Flemish string and this gave the brace height I could work with.

Last month I had a holiday in Florida and booked a 2 day hog hunt, the bow shot well and was easy to handle from a tree stand.

Having owned several Recurves which I could never get to shoot well and sold on, I did purchase a Bear Grizzly which shot brilliantly, but through my own stupidity (dropped it on concrete twice) the riser split on me, having a little experience of Bear products and recommendations it didn't take much persuading to order the take down bow.

I waited for a year to write this review, to see if I still felt the same as when I first picked it up and shot it, it a real cracker of a bow, well worth the money.

I wanted a takedown bow that was simple, quick, compact and quality. Thats what I got. I can brake it down and stick it in my quiver if I want. I have had none of the issues that others complain about my string was perfect, my limbs are perfect the riser is perfect. It shoots smooth and consistant.

            Comments about Bear Takedown Recurve:

I have always been a fan of Bear bows and was very happy to see them make a bigger commitment to their traditional line. For me the new takedown is just about everything I hoped it would be. The construction is excellent, the finish is clean, the bow is smooth drawing and shoots as good as any custom bow I have owned. I have found nothing to complain about regarding this bow; I think for the money it can not be beat. For those interested, I draw 30.5" and have the B riser with #3 limbs. For me this combination is very smooth and quiet. I am looking forward to adding another set or two of limbs. People always talk about finding the bow for them: I feel this is the bow for me.

*I have also commented on the service/delivery tab.

            Service and delivery comments:

When I first received this bow I couldn't get the top limb to seat on the riser. I thought either the riser-pin or limb locator-hole was misaligned. Right before sending it back I took one last look at the riser and upper limb. It was then I noticed that the limb was hitting the small Allen-head screw that holds the spring loaded latch in place. One turn tightening the screw and the limb slipped right in place-problem solved! Thanks to 3 Rivers for being understanding on my initial disappointment of the bow and willing to have it returned. Fortunately, everything worked out and I'm very satisfied with the bow.

                Comments about Bear Takedown Recurve:

Not the most expensive T/D bow on the market or the cheapest, its easy to assemble and shoots really well. I chose riser A plus no.3 limbs making a 60"bow and with this combination the recommended B/H should be 7.25" - 8.25"(info supplied by Bear)to achieve this a 57" string was needed.
I do like the drop down menu on your site that gives you poundage rating for all limb and riser combinations.

Still the easiest takedown to take down and reassemble. This bow is solid and offers plenty of cast. I've owned/own several of top name customs and the Bear Kodiak Takedown is on par with any of them.
