  • Q:

i have a Fred Bear Grizzly 45# recurve bow. I'd like to match carbon arrows to the bow. Is the Fletched Traditional Only 300 a good match for the bow with the 45# draw weight?

      A:

It depends upon your draw length, point weight, etc.
I would say the 300 are most likely too stiff of a spine.
You can look at our arrow charts at this following link:

  • Q:

Please confirm price of Traditional Only 30.75" fletched carbon arrows is $72.95 and cut to requested length and install inserts add $6.00.
I am assuming quantity of 1 means a 6 pack and add #55.04 for a dozen.

Does this come with field points on it? If it doesn't can I screw in field points?

      A:

No, the field points are not included. The arrows need cut to length and the inserts installed, then the field points can be screwed in.

  • Q:

Can someone offer advice on arrow-length I should use for these arrows, to get a good flight with a 30# bow and a 27" draw?

I've bought uncut Gold Tips before and they felt much too long and heavy, like it was real effort to get them to the target. I've heard people saying that new archers should leave their arrows uncut because their archor-points haven't settled yet etc, but I've been shooting for a couple of months and my draw is fairly consistent. I prefer my shorter 29" aluminum arrows to my uncut carbons, but if I cut these Traditional Only arrows down to the suggested 1" from my riser, won't it dramatically stiffen the dynamic spine?

Cutting the arrows down a couple inches will not lighten them enough to tell much difference. However it will stiffen the arrow and may cause poor arrow flight with your bow.

      Hi Treya,
If you look at the top or first page of the arrow selection/spine chart, it suggests that the arrow should be a minimum of one inch longer than your draw length. So, 2" beyond the draw length would be fine.
But, the issue is what spine are the carbon gold tips? That is going to lay boundary conditions on the point weight and length of your arrows. You can use the spine chart to figure out what is possible for your arrows and your bow. Note that horizontally in the center section of the carbon chart, the same spine will work for 2 - 5 arrow lengths. Hopefully, the actual spine of the shafts you bought gives you the range of actual arrow length you want. The spine matched can be adjusted with the point weight to a certain degree, too.
While the actual arrow length will change your sight picture, as long as the arrow is matched according to the spine chart to your bow and draw length, it should not clash with the limb of your bow as the fletching end of the arrow goes by it.
One other thing, you may realize that cutting carbon shafts is a non-trivial task because of the carbon fibers. Normal saws that would be okay for a wood or even possibly aluminum arrows, in general are not suitable for cutting carbon arrows. There may be other options, but I bought a carbon cut off saw from 3Rivers.
Good luck in your efforts and in your shooting.

  • Q:

I'm getting a new longbow (Bear Montana). It's 55#, although my draw length is only 26.8" so a little less than that. Could you help me order the correct Traditional Only Carbon Arrows (length and weight)? I'll be shooting field points at first, but would like to add broadheads later on. Thanks.

On my 55 pound Longbow I like to shoot the 400s with a 100 grain brass insert. With your shorter draw lengths you may be better off with a 500. It is so close on the charts that I would recommend getting a test kit

  • Q:

when ordering traditional only carbon arrows, i am not sure how to match the length of the cut arrow with insert installed to the length of the fletched arrow. for example, if i want to order the 28.5" length with insert installed, what is the appropriate length of the uncut fletched arrow?

The uncut lengths are in the chart in the description. You would be able to get any spine cut to the 28.5" length you want though.

No. You need to order the points you want as a separate item.
When I order these arrows and I want them to be ready to shoot when I get them, I pay to have them:
      1. cut to the length I want
      2. install inserts for the points
I also order the inserts and the points I want to use.
None of these items are very expensive and unless you like to finish the assembly of the arrows, it is well worth the money to have these things done for you.
      Good shooting…
