The Sitka Gear Philosophy

Born in the mountains, at home in any terrain.
Sitka's goal was simple: Introduce the bowhunting industry to a system of clothing that incorporates the latest high-performance fabrics with a mountaineering design philosophy. Using only the most advanced mountaneering fabrics, lightweight, low-bulk, & high-performance, cut to fit perfectly with no unecessary excess to weigh you down or snag, they forever changed the way bowhunters will view clothing. How did they do it?
The folks at Sitka Gear achieved their goal with a line of clothing designed to perform under the various circumstances that hunters find in the mountains, while hiding them with an extremely effective, multi-season pattern called Mountain Mimicry.

Sitka Gear in Mountain Mimicry Camo
Sitka has hand-picked fabrics that wick moisture, incorporate two-way and four-way stretch for comfort and mobility, block wind and have Durable Water Repellant (DWR) finishes that are quiet and tough enough to withstand extreme abuse. Following strict guidelines on design, Sitka took a minimalist approach to eliminate bulk, decrease weight and increase packability. On Sitka Mountain Gear you will find storm-proof zippers versus bulky storm flaps, taped seams versus sewn, internal cuffs for heat and pockets you can use with a pack on. Just what you need; no more, no less. Remember the old saying, "Wool, warm even when wet?" How comfortable are you when wet? With Sitka Gear, we've change the slogan to, "Sitka Gear, keeps you warm and dry no matter what the conditions."

Sitka Gear Layering System
Sitka Mountain Gear™ is based on the tried-and-true system of layering, which gives the hunter the flexibility needed for hunting in the mountains. You're covered from head-to-toe with a moisture-wicking base layer, warm thermal layer and quiet and tough DWR-finished outer layer that is based on Soft Shell Technology. This allows you to climb light when you are heating up and to control your temperature when you are slowing down or when the weather changes.

Sitka History

Sitka Gear Founders Jason Hairston and Jonathan Hart
Founded by Jason Hairston and Jonathan Hart in 2005 Sitka Mountain Gear™ was an idea spawned by necessity. Having just climbed 3000 vertical feet in the dark, with intermittent snow flurries and driving sleet, Hairston and Hart hunkered down behind a gnarled White bark Pine to get some reprieve from the elements and a little food in their bellies. Cold and wet with sweat from their climb, they knew they didn't need to be this uncomfortable in their gear. So, on that September morning, at timberline, surrounded by bugling bulls, they decided to create a company to fulfill this need. Utilizing their personal experiences in mountaineering, Hairston and Hart set out to design clothes built to tackle mountains.
