Book takes you all over the world for traditional hunting. There are hunts of all kinds. The Asiatic Buffaloe hunts take you across Australian Islands. There are African stalks that are very personal and inspirational. There are deer hunts from Hawaii. This book is easily read and will keep you interested the whole way.

I want to first say that this book was a gift to me from Don Thomas when 3Rivers Archery first picked the book up for sale. I took the book on my way flying to the PBS banquet in Portland OR in 2012. I had plenty of flying and layover time to read the book (Indiana to Oregon) and found myself taking out big sections of the book in no time.

Don Thomas has the book broken into six sections (dividing by parts of the World he has hunted), so you get to focus on one part of the World at a time, or you can jump around if you choose. I have not traveled nearly as much as Don has, I felt I could connect with him on his hunts by the way he described them and how he felt on the hunts. A real "in-the-moment" feel while I was reading. Shorter chapters made for reading "just one more" chapter very easy and added to getting through the book in a short time. I had the book done before I got home, but with 10+ hours of very little disturbed reading time, that was not hard to do.

Overall, I believe the book is a PERFECT gift for hunters. Don writes about the hunts in such a way that any hunter should connect with him and know exactly where he is coming from. Also, from reading Don's experiences I am hoping to try at least some of the hunting locations and game that he has shared in the book. A great Read!!!

Not since Hemingway have we had an outdoorsman so vividly capture the the details that make every hunt special. When I read this book I felt like a kid again, sitting around a fire as the master storyteller tells of his adventures. Heck, the guy even looks like Hemingway!

Don Thomas brings perspective to the hunter's place in today's woods and waters. He translates the natural world to the written word in honest and crisp prose, and balances the benefits and obligations we have as travelers in the wild. He always seems an advocate of sustained, wise use of the wilderness, and a voice of reason compared with the "gore 'n more" advocates in many of today's mainstream hunting publications. There is always a place for a Thomas book on my mantle.
