After reading this book, I think it can help anyone of any age have the skill and confidence to help themselves in the outdoors.

Most of us think that applies to hunters, hikers, etc. And it does.
However, how I also see it as helpful to the RVer, or the household when power is off or affected by severe storms.

I think, after reading and practicing the easy to understand, practical skills, we will keep this book in the RV glove compartment or with the FirstAid Kit at Camp when we are there. In a panic situation, it is always good to have something as descriptive and as easily understood and followed to help you.

The author is a good teacher... I think the lessons and practial exercises are perfect for any group like Civil Air Patrol, or Scouts.

But maybe even more importantly,I think its good for a family activity....reading a chapter together, and then, as a group, use the accompanying lesson plan for hands on experience would be fun.

Just as we see teaching our children how to swim is an important survival skill, so is teaching them how to think and act in the outdoors, should they need to.

And this book seems to do all that!! Good purchase.

As a Woman that spends a good deal of time pursuing outdoor sports and recreational activities I found the information in this book gives me an extra feeling of self reliance and confidence in the outdoor. This is great information, easy to read and apply. Everyone spending time outdoors, men, women and children should have a copy, read it and practice before you are in a survival situation or to just add to your comfort when you are outdoors.

Staying alive when things go wrong is a MUST have skill for every person that spends time outdoors. This book is easy to read and understand. It covers the things you need to know without bogging you down with stuff you will never be able to do when things are going wrong. The book clearly explains HOW to accomplish these survival gems and challenges you to actually practice them. A version that is pack friendly and lays flat like a field guide or lab manual would make it perfect, as is it is the best I have read. The author did a great job!

As a former Wildland Firefighter and Rescue Squad member. I've read alot of different books on the subjects of survival, first aid etc... and after reading this book I've got to say I'm very impressed with it's contents. The details and exercises are laid out in an easy to understand and follow, step by step format that kept my interest from beginning to end. All in all it has the most usable information in one small package I've ever seen.. and is sure to be a life saver.
