My son got this set for his 5th birthday, and so far he loves it. It is actually a decent little kid sized bow. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to get their kid interested in archery. The grip is a good size for little hands, and it has a really nifty little O-ring sight. I'm actually thinking of copying that on my longbow. The bow itself looks like it will last for years as long as it isn't abused. Having said that, this set could be vastly improved with one small change: The included arrows need bigger fletchings. With such a low draw weight and short draw length, there isn't enough forward velocity for the tiny "Blazer" style plastic vanes to stabilize the arrow. It shoots much better with my cut-down cast-off cedar shafts with 5" shield cut feathers. At least I have a use for those broken arrows now!

My son isn't quite 3, but he's too strong to use the Children's Archery Bow, so I bought this one for him. He's able to pull the bow without a problem, but I'm scared of the string popping every time he does. It's held onto the bow with a crimped piece of metal on each end. The string's also too thin for the extra arrows I bought to grip onto, and there's no nock point. There's also a hole in either end of the bow where the string goes through and then loops around the end. It just makes me think that it's not made to last and can pop in my son's face. He still loves it and is very proud of it, but it scares me.

Comments about 1st Shot Junior Archery Set:

I bought this bow for my son who is three years old, and has only shot bows with my assistance (basically standing there acting like he's holding a bow while I shoot it for him). He is definitely inquisitive, so I thought I would start him with this bow. His older brother was getting a bow, so I got the three year old one to mess around with as well.

The kit was pretty basic, and included a quiver, armguard and tab (both too big for my three year old) two arrows, bow, and a target. The bow is pretty basic and accepts both right and left handed shooters. The arrows are ok, but I would definitely recommend the childrens' arrows by 3 Rivers. They were nice and reasonably priced. All in all, a pretty good kit for a youngster just starting out.

great for a first bow for a young archer, we do not use the included arrows, bought the youth arrows instead. Would suggest getting the string nocks especially for new archers

Comments about 1st Shot Junior Archery Set:

After a 15# was too tough for my 6-yr-old daughter, we bought her this. It's been great for her, enabling her to learn proper form and improve accuracy!

She won't use a bracer, but the included bracer had a velcro fastener that fit both her and me. I was less impressed with the tab, which seems uncomfortable. The simple quiver would have been fine for the price, but the belt slots were on the wrong side for her, so it wasn't useable. The arrows are also not of very good quality.

The bow itself is great, though--and that's where the money was going. :)

Bought this for my daughter's 6th birthday and she loves it! Great for her small hands and she is able to do it all by herself which is very important. I did read the reviews and took the advice to buy the extra wooden arrows...not sure if that really made much difference. I also got the targets which are very bright and made it complete. Very happy I got this for her.

Comments about 1st Shot Junior Archery Set:

I bought this bow for my son when he was three years old. He is four now and still loves this bow. He shoots it every change he gets. At his age, he does not concern himself with accuracy as much as how far he can shoot the arrow. I did find that my broken arrow with feathers fly much better than the arrows in the kit. If the bow is available seperate, I would buy that and use old arrows. I also added two knock points to help hold arrow for him. A thicker string would be nice. This bow is ambidextrious and can confuse him as to which side he should knock his arrow. I would find a way to mark it. Other than that the bow is everything a young archer could expect.

This is a great 1st bow for younger kids. My 3.5 year old loves to shoot it with me helping her pull it back. My 6 year old can't quite pull it back all the way yet but she's getting stronger with the motions. I definitely recommend the wooden 6 pack of arrows that 3 Rivers Sells as an addition to this set. The wooden arrows fly straight and true. I cannot say the same about the arrows that come standard. So far they just don't perform well for us.

Comments about 1st Shot Junior Archery Set:

We got this for my four year old son and he absolutely loves it. It's easy enough for him to draw so he can work on form but enough pull to give him some work. And those arrows are fast when they go which delights him to no end. It's also got some range for such a small bow. I was easily able to hit the target from 20 paces away when I tried it out (though I must have looked pretty comical with a six foot person drawing a 14 in. arrow...). Definitely not a toy.

The downsides are the other parts of this set. The vinel quiver and arm guard are okay, we don't bother with tabs, and the target is standard. The arrows that they included, however, are waaaay to long. They're nearly twice the length of the bow's draw! Do everyone a favor and get the Angel Youth Arrows instead. Everyone will be happier.
