THESE ARE TRUE BODKINS.SHORT BODKINS ARE FOR PIERCING PLATE ARMOUR.LONG BODKINS ARE FOR MAIL.
IF I LIVED IN 1250 A.D. I'D HAVE USED THESE IF I COULD HAVE GOT THEM.
THESE BODKINS ARE REALLY FIELD POINTS AND CAN BE USED AS SUCH.THEY WILL DO NO MORE DAMAGE TO A 3D TARGET THAN A FIELD POINT.IT IS JUST THAT THEY HAVE A SQUARE CROSS SECTION RATHER THAN A ROUND ONE.I PUT THEM ON PORT ORFORD TAPERED SHAFTS WITH 5" SHIELD FEATHERS.THEY KIND OF LOOK ---MODERN MEDIEVIL.USE PLENTY OF HOT GLUE TO KEEP THEM ON.WITH A ENGLISH STYLE LONGBOW IF I CANT IT OVER ABOUT 30 TO 45 DEGREES DEPENDING ON WHERE MY FEET ARE AND GET OVER THE ARROW IT SHOOTS PRETTY GOOD.BOTTOM LINE IF YOU LIKE PLAYING AGINCOURT GET SOME.

A bit hard to get on the shaft but not difficult..just takes longer. The results are shown when you shoot them! Slower than the 5/16 I am use to but the difference is in the hit. They hit like a led mini ball form a black powder rifle. I want to get more to replace my field tips in 5/16".

These replica bodkin arrwoheads are a fantastic deal for what little you pay. While I can tell that they were most likely machine-manufactured, it doesn't make them any less fun and hardly detracts from the historical value at all. I used these on 3/8" oak dowels for replica warbow arrows and found them to be perfect, despite the heavy heads and shafts. Even with my smaller 35# longbow, which I will admit I am not the most proficient with, I was drilling targets and making satisfying hits with these heads. Now here's where things got interesting: I missed a shot (surprise, surprise!) and sent an arrow with one of these heads on it into a solid hardwood fencepost. From 50 or so paces away, I put at least 7/8" of that arrow into the post, straight-on. Keep in mind, this was with a very light bow. The only thing I could nit-pick is that when I used a lighter to heat the head after gluing it to the shaft, it tended to scorch quite easily, though this was fixed with a wet cloth and some elbow grease. If you're looking for a reenactment or target arrow, or just want to add a little flair to your 3D shoots, pick these bodkin heads up. They're a steal for the money, perform better than I could have hoped for, and made my shoots that much more fun.

Service and delivery comments:

As always, 3Rivers has done right in my book with their service standards. In the tracking e-mail, I was told to expect a 4 day wait for these heads and some other things I ordered. Three days later, there they were on my doorstep. I was able to track my order very easily, and the packaging was excellent. Overall, another great experience with 3 Rivers.

I used these points to make medieval arrows. They have a pleasing medieval look. However, there are obvious machining marks on them, making them less authentic. Also, the patina, which looks very nice initially, eventually wears away after a few hours of use. Overall they are nice, relatively affordable medieval style arrowheads.

I have personally been getting into the medieval style of archery and when 3Rivers reviewed these style of points I was all for them. They do not look like field points, have a brownish swirl mixed in with the black. REALLY nice 'old' look to them. They cost a bit more, but they are precision made and stronger than any other bodkin like point I have seen. If you are looking for a blend of medieval look with modern performance THESE are the points. Shoot all day with them!!
