              I mounted the press base on a table in my shop. Outdoors, I concreted into the ground a galvanized fence pole and mount the press without the base right onto the pole. So I can work indoors or out and it take about 30 seconds to move the press.
              Because the stave lays in the press it does not fall when pressure is released so it is very simple and comfortable to release pressure and move the stave to a new position.
              The swiveling plate does a good job of finding whatever position it needs to secure the stave.

                    I have used the Stavepress for a few days now and I am very pleased with my purchase. I love that I can move it to another area if I so choose. It seems to be very well made. The finish is tough and all components are beefy enough to take a beating. I am most impressed with the rubber material used on the face plates of the press. It is a perfect material for this application. It seems to give just enough not to harm the wood, but tough enough to take the pressure of clamping such an irregular surface. When working a stave, it does not twist, shuffle, or move at all once it is clamped down. However, I would recommend a few small peices of scrap wood to use as shims to even out the top plate when clamping down.

                    The Stavepress stands up to the claims it makes in its promo video. I used it and a drawknife to rough out my first stave a few days ago and can honestly say that it made the job a pleasure.
                    If you are thinking of getting one, it is a great product. I also think the price is reasonable considering the price of a good traditional vice, and that the Stavepress is (in my opinion) much more useful than a traditional vice for a bowyer.

                    Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

                        The stave press is compact, so I was able to permanently bolt it to an out-of-the-way corner of my workbench. It is well built and holds irregular staves and nearly finished bows without slipping. The soft pads protect the wood back and belly very well. I have used the stave press regularly for seven months, and have come to prefer it over my bench vice.

                            Got one of these for my dad. Great features. You can use on a benchtop, so you can use it standing up. This is a plus for some kinds of work. The soft pad allows you to hold irregularly shaped objects securely. The fact that you can clamp it down doesn't mean you have to store another piece of furniture, you just put it away when you don't need it. Very well made, looks like it will last forever. Should have a lot of uses around the workshop.
