I just purchased this Bear Super Magnum 48" in 50#. Wow, what a beautiful bow! This is the new 2013 model, made of African Paduk and black fiberglass. This bow, once tuned and using PROPER arrows, shoots like a dream! Very accurate and great cast / power for 50#, which when combined with a heavy razor sharp arrow, is more than enough for any big game in North America. Unfortunately, this bow has drawn a few bad reviews, by people (most likely novices), who either dry fired it, or used ultra light weight arrows (essentially dry firing it!), and managed to brake it. I draw 29", and with heavy arrows at 20 yards, see NO DIFFERENCE in accuracy between this little 48" Super Mag and my 60" AMO and 62" AMO recurves. Is the Super Mag a target or 3-D bow... no. It is a HUNTING bow for tree stands, thick cover and blinds. This is why it was designed back in 1965, as a HUNTING BOW. Some claim the Super Mag "stacks", and you get "finger pinch" if you draw over 27" or so. BS!!! As I said, I draw 29", use a glove and have no issues. The Super Mag, like most ANY properly built recurve, properly tuned and with the correct arrows, is very accurate. Bear has a top of the line product here, with a full warranty. Don't dry fire it or use light arrows, take care of it and it should last a long time!

Don't judge a book by its cover

I used bow 2 months. Bow has good sides and bad too - I think (I'm no expert) construction is big problem - see pictures!!!

Comments about Bear Super Mag 48" Recurve:

I received my Bear super Mag 48 50# two days ago, I was shocked how light it was compared to my Sammick sage(s). It literally felt like a child's bow when I first picked it up. Went through the standard set up,limb tip silencers, fur string silencers and a natural turkey feather rest, Set the nock point and brace height and took it out to the back yard. I have a shorter draw(27") and at first I was concerned with coming to full draw as the bow was so light, but Man once I saw how those arrows rocketed out of this little powerhouse I was impressed. The targets only 15 yards out and it was dark by then and I was shooting from a lighted porch, by the second flight of 3 arrows I was slamming the bulleye. four inch groups @ 15 yards in the dark from a bow I haven't even tuned yet? Sweet! I'm gonna love still hunting with this light little beast. I get to shoot this Baby in the daylight tomorrow and start really tuning her up.

I can see issues with longer draws (28+), shooting light arrows , or not using a stringer(the limbs have a heavy re curve to them to get this bow size down), and a High (8-9" ) Brace height which I'm not used to.I actually did notice minor limb warp on the bow out of the box, around 1/8"-1/4", but I'll see if that settles out. Reported the limb warp to 3 rivers and got an instant response on how to massage the limbs back into alignment with minor twists. Great service as always, however we will see how it works out.
All in all this is a great shooter, I haven't felt any torque issues, stack or finger pinch (3 under shooter). The bow is the reddish brown as pictured In advert, not a black as seemingly implied, also the quiver inserts seem to be Bear proprietary, not the standard AMO placement. This is a great bow for shooting in a kneeling position,in a blind or from a stand. I'd have rated this 5 out of 5 if it wasn't for the slight limb twists right out of the box...

Comments about Bear Super Mag 48" Recurve:

I bought this bow while back 60 # pull , bow looks and shoots well but much different than the longer recurve i was used to a lot less forgiving, had to change my grip a bit to keep it from tourqing left to right...seems to be much more noticable due to its short length also is very loud before putting string silencers on it.also had troubles putting my two piece slide on quiver on it due to its short and narrow limbs so i put a detachable bolt on quiver that works much better...i am pretty happy with this mini giant so far and cant wait to try it in thick bush and from my tree stand being the main reason i bought a bow this small

Well crafted and great looking bow. #1 reason I purchased this bow was its short length. Still delivers arrows downrange with plenty of punch. Strange I assumed a small bow would be somehow less powerful even if rated at 60#.

Comments about Bear Super Mag 48" Recurve:

I was searching for a traditional bow and when I first picked this up, I couldn't believe how light it was and the fact that the grip was real comfortable, then I shot it. Thats all it took. I found the bow I wanted. It's fast, no hand shock and best of all it's compact, so it's easy to transport and easy to manuver, especially in tree stands and blinds.

I have a short draw length. Have owned this bow for two years now, with a 60lb draw weight. No warping or defects.♦ It shoots very accurate. With the right maintenance you should not have any problems with this bow. Make sure it is unstrung after every use and be sure to replace the bow string every year. I could see where someone with a long draw length could break this bow easily, this bow is the shortest recurve I have owned to date. Good for still hunting in thick cover.
