Comments about Instinctive Shooting: A Step-by-Step Guide to Better Bowhunting, Volume 1:

It's a great little book to get the beginner in the game for longbow and recurve shooting. The book could use a little more diagrams in my opinion though it does have plenty of black & white photos, and the setup & tuning section could probably be written a little better. Overall its a fine read and good for reviewing time to time.

I am new to archery, and I heard this guy knows whats up. Indeed he does. Alot of the equipment and mechanics in the book I have read elswhere. His discusion of shooting theory and hunting are incredibly helpful. Quick read and very entertaining.

Comments about Instinctive Shooting: A Step-by-Step Guide to Better Bowhunting, Volume 1:

I purchased vol 1 and 2 simultaneously after about 3 months of practice on my first recurve. This was also the first bow of any kind for me, so to date all I had were hints and annecdotes from friends. My recurve came with an elevated rest that my friends told me to remove, but the on-line user groups said was better. After reading the book, I immediately removed the elevetated rest and began shooting off the shelf. I changed my grip and stance as well, and I immediately began shooting better groups. It felt entirely more "instinctive" than my previous methods. After a month of practice, my performance has greatly improved. I recommed reading vol 1 and 2 to completely understand the mechanics of instinctive shooting.

This book was the best thing that I read when I was leaving the world of the compound behind. The information on shooting was relevant to both recurves, which I was shooting when I read the book, and longbows. A must read for new traditional shooters

give good detailed instructions on how to improve your shooting. I found it applied to both recurve and longbows, I shoot both and have for 40 years.

I wish I had this book as a kid. This will take you from a beginner to an accomplished shooter if you follow the form tips given

Comments about Instinctive Shooting: A Step-by-Step Guide to Better Bowhunting, Volume 1:

The heart of this book--the actual techniques to follow to learn to shoot a bow instinctively--are quite specific and helpful. But that information takes up only a few pages of the book. The rest includes a range of other information, including how to tune a recurve bow, make wooden arrows, and even 30 pages of hunting stories. Not at all what I expected from the title, or, for that matter, from reading this author's usually excellent articles in Traditional Bowhunter magazine. Also, as the author himself points out, much of the concrete information in this book is very recurve specific (sure wish the catalogue blurb had said that!), so if you shoot a longbow, you may find, as I did, that little that's in this book applies to your bow and style of shooting. I'd recommend this, but only if you know up front what you're really getting, and still feel it's what you're looking for.
