Not too much you can say about Port Orford cedar that hasn't already been said!! You just won't find better quality and consistency anywhere!! The spine is accurate...they are straight or will straighten easliy...and there's nothing like the aroma of the cedar as you craft it into an arrow.
I've shot 'em all....aluminum, carbon, even fiberglass (I am an old guy you know!) but it's just hard to beat a quality wood arrow for straight shooting, forgiveness and penetration. And besides that...I just like the way it makes me feel to shoot something that God created and I made!! As usual, 3 Rivers is in a league by themselves....thanks for making things so easy!!

I was thrilled to be able to get 100 shafts splined 40-45 pounds at a low price. I own a Spline tester that I got from 3 Rivers and a new-to-me 40 pound bow(I tested it). My goal is to get a few quivers of perfectly matched arrows, as well as some that I can use when teaching. I was not thrilled when I put them on my spline tester. 60% of the shafts were under the advertised spline range of 40-45. A few were so far under as to be unsafe on my new bow. I was always taught that when you advertise a specification, you better meet or exceed that specification or you get unhappy customers. After spending 6 hours, splining them twice to be sure, I get to pay for shippping both ways to get replacements. I hope that the replacements will spline in the range advertised, they have not yet arrived. I am not a happy customer at this time. The bright lure of a what I needed at a low price is looking very dull at this point. I would only recommend them to a beginner who doesn't care about matching his arrows. Since some were way under the 40 pound lower bound fo the range, you better have a spline tester before you order these, since you may get random unsafe arrows for your bow in the lot.

Just wonderful, easy to straighten, nice consistant grain, the only thing I could complain about if I had to is that I would like to see these sold un-burnished as an option, smell spectacular.

      Tool marks in shafts

Comments about Port Orford Cedar Wood Shafts:

Shafts were rough and displayed more tool marks than I expected. These weren't so bad they couldn't have been sanded out, but the instructional sheet that came with gasked lacquer recommended shafts not be sanded. I hoped the staining hide the tool marks. It didn't.

          Plan to sand the shafts.

Comments about Port Orford Cedar Wood Shafts:

I chose (recommended) Port Orford Cedar as the shaft material for my teenage daughter's Christmas arrows. She had grown a fair bit, and her old arrows were too short for broadheads. We selected the materials together, and built the arrows together. POC is easily worked. It's not too difficult to get good, even tapers, even with a simple, pencil-sharpener type cutting tool. Also, POC takes alcohol based stain very evenly, and finishes beautifully. We had to do very little straightening. These are high quality shafts, nicely matched. It's nice not to have to buy in bulk to get a dozen good shafts. Thanks.
