I enjoy making fletches from turkey feathers and this tool REALLY comes in handy. I grind by hand using drywall sanding screen on a flat surface and with this tool I can get really consistent grinds. Additionally I can keep the quill narrow and consistent by using a small file alongside the edges while the feather is in the clamp.I have the 11" clamp but will be getting the 6" also. Great tool and easy to use.

I recommend cleaning up the rough edges of the blades with a file before using the tool but it only takes a minute to do this.

I've tried to process feathers several times before with varying results. This jig takes all the guesswork out of it. I used a belt sander and did 25 feathers in just a few minutes. Works very well.

Works like a charm!

This clamp does exactly what is should do: holds the feather straight, and the quill in a position to be ground. I split the full feather with a utility knife, then clamp half half in the jig.I use a babbitt file to take away 3/4 of the quill I want to remove, then finish up with 120 grit paper on a rubber sanding block. The clamp is easy to open, position the feather, and close. Good job on the design. I am happy!
