We were using 2lbs. worth of lead with a coat hanger stuck through the middle. There isn't much clearance when checking low spine arrows. They flex down, and my homemade weight would rest on the base. The replacement Adams Spine tester weight hangs close to the pivot point and has a very sturdy hook. It wouldn't seem like it, but the size and shape of the Adams weight does help make spine checking faster and probably more accurate than what I was doing.
