Get the book they sell here or you may be sorry because it is easy to put on backwards and misuse. Great workmanshipman, I have hugh fingers so needed Extra Large, had to made and shipped from Korea, took a long time to arrive. Very happy with product but if you have never shot this style there is definately a learning curve you must achieve. I still shoot better one over and two under but enjoy the challenge. Recommend.

Shooting with the thumbring requires lots of patience and practice. One of the outstanding drawbacks not mentioned in the blurbs praising the use of the ring is the fact that your thumb will swell and while this is not painful it is very deteremental to managing the draw, as well as causing a problem when attempting to remove the ring from the swollen digit. I have still to learn to ignore the swelling of my thumb after about 12 or 15 draws of my bow string. However I am determined to master this technique.

    Comments about Thumb Rings:

I purchased "Kay's Thumbring Book" from 3 Rivers Archery, then purchased the "large" size thumb ring, which wasn't large enough. I should have ordered the "extra large" but they weren't in stock at the time. I have modified the thumbring to fit my thumb with judicious removal of material and reshaping the inside portion of the thumbring using a dremel tool with 1/2'' sanding drum and 100 grit sandpaper, so it now fits.

I tried using it, and failed miserably. "Traditional" thumbrings are designed for archers who have been shooting Mongolian style since they were 4 years old, not for old farts like me who want to take advantage of the merits of the thumbring. The "flat" that is designed to hold the string in position during the draw is perfect for slick, quick, consistant string release, but it takes an expert to "feel" the string on the flat and keep the string from slipping off.

I recommend using a 1/8'' round file and putting a 1/16'' deep groove across both sides of the "flat" near the thumb hole, then using a small file to gently slope/blend the side of the groove away from the thumb hole into a smooth gradual incline that intercepts the end of the original "flat" as an aid in keeping the string in place. Polishing the area you just worked on with a dremel polishing cloth wheel or rubbing it with very fine steel wool will restore the original "smooth release". I can find no discernible difference in the smoothness of the release after being so modified, and it helps those of us who haven't been trained in the Mongolian release since we were youngsters. Using a bow of 20#-30# @ 28'' draw weight definitely helps one to get a jump start on the Mongolian release learning curve. The 60'' Titan Youth Bow is an adult sized bow with a draw weight of 30# @ 28'', and is available at a very reasonable cost.

When using a finger release (split or 3 below), the bones of the lower arm are rotated, and drawing the bow string to the corner of one's mouth is just about as far as one can draw a bow comfortably. When using the thumbring, the bones of the lower arm are straight, drawing to the back-lower corner of the jawbone is natural, and adds 3 to 5 inches to your normal draw length, adding velocity to your arrow. When using a thumbring, bow length and finger pinch are not an issue.

    Comments about Thumb Rings:

Fortunately, the thumbring fits my thumb well. I am also glad that the measurements are illustrated on this website, because it would have been difficult to size them.
Also, you may want to consider one of a larger size if you have thumbs that are inclined to swell significantly after numerous thumbring draws. Should the thumbring be too small, try tying a leather strap to the thumbring to shorten the "gap."
For those of you who are worried about the durability of this item, you may want to find someone in the dental/special effects field who might be able to cast this item in dental acrylic as a backup should it not hold up over time. So far, I have fired scores of arrows with this thumbring and it shows not signs of decay.

      Comments about Thumb Rings:

The profile of the thumb is straight and should be curved. The delivery note said large, which is what I ordered. But the ID of the ring was only 2.75in instead of 3in. so it was too small. 3 Rivers offered a replacement but the cost of returning and receiving the replacement to and from the UK was not worth it. So I tried to file it to make it work, but without much joy. I got the fit correct but could do nothing about the thumb profile. I think this design of ring should work on a light pull bow, 30-45lbs. For me I does not work on my bows. They are 65lbs to 110lbs (3 of them). The 3 Rivers company has a very good name in my club (Deanne Bowmen). But its better than we wait until we need a fair number of items to make the shipping and duty costs viable.

          Comments about Thumb Rings:

after receiving my grozer scythian horsebow, i decided that it would be a good idea to learn how to use a thumb ring. while it takes a bit to learn and get used to, this is a wonderful tool that can greatly increase your speed and efficiency as an archer if you are willing to put the effort into learning to use it.

            Comments about Thumb Rings:

Finally a place that sells thumb rings in the U.S. I shoot a Mongolian Horse bow and have been looking for a place that sells thumb rings that wouldn't cost me double the price of the item in shipping from half way across the world. This is a very nice piece very smooth and makes shooting a primitive bow a lot easier on the fingers. its nice and smooth and provides the perfect release every time. Also it fits perfectly.

                  Comments about Thumb Rings:

I also do Kyudo (Japanese Archery), it uses a glove with a non flexible thumb, the thumb has a grove to hold the Bow(Yumi) String. The glove is called "Yugake" and has to fit just right on the whole hand and wrist. There are 14 measurements for a Yagake to fit properly, and if you are not at the custom glove store in Japan you may end up with a useless glove. The Thumb Ring eliminates all of this, 4 sizes fits all! Quick to put on and take off
It goes without saying the cost of a thumb ring verses a custom traditionally hand made item with exacting specifications from Japan are not comparable in costs
The Thumb Ring doesnt require the use of Resin like a Yugake does every 4 to 10 shots
