      The Novaculite is a joy to knap and a welcomed change for my elbows from raw chert! With proper platform preparation it produces predictable flakes and pretty flake scars.

      Since my spalling skills are pretty much average, I do wish that it was offered in cut slabs or ground preforms for FOG.

        I tryed there other rocks for knapping but this is the best of them all. I use dacite and could only get 1 good flake for an arrow head out of three orders...When I switched to Novucalite I got 7 Arrow head flakes from one order of this great stuff.

                  I have made a number of arrowheads from this rock, but the shaped pieces you get from this are so blocky and thick that one will most of the time never get the typical, symmetrical biface with a good flake pattern on it. It is quite frustrating, but it still chips and flakes because deep down it is still a variation of flint.

                      the only thing wrong with this product is that most of the pieces i got were too small to really work with but it is really fun to work at to try to make the best of what you got, i got three big palm sized pieces but were in a hard wedge shape. so thining them resulted in me breaking them in half. but i would reccomend buying this product great stuff to work with and its heat treated!

                              This is great knapping material. It is hard to get hinge fractures with it and flakes come off with ease. Some pieces come in shapes that are hard to flake, but it is fun to practice and figure out how to work with them. Enjoy.
