After letting it soak in warm water, the rawhide is ready to apply to the back of the bow and can be followed along with slight compression to get the air bubbles out.

Comments about Rawhide Backings:

I have ordered this backing material from Three Rivers 4 times. The quality is generaly good, my only complaint is that sometimes I get a backing that is either a bit too thick or too thin in places. I recommend using rawhide as backing for "primative" bows because it does a great job of forming to the natural shape of the stave, and provides all the protection most wood bows would need, plus, being thin it doen't overpower the front of the bow. For those who don't have access to deer hides they have harvested themselves, or don't want to process them, these rawhide backings may be the answer. I would really like to know what kind of animal these come from?
