This is my second bow, the first took a set and dropped off the poundage after about a year but they replaced it.( in the bow's defense, I shot 40-60 arrows a day out of that thing for almost a year which is more work than most bows get in a lifetime). After I felt comfy with my accuracy I took it deer hunting and bagged two deer my first season. I would limit your hunting shots to 25 yards as the arrow speed is really low (chrono mine with aluminum arrows and 125gr BH at 115 fps) and the penetration drops off too much after 25 yards for confident kills. As with all primitive bows- practice and get accurate before hunting with it. I would recommend a dacron string and light silencers to improve hunting performance. A great first primitive bow. In response to the other reviewer, yes they are hand made and do need a little finish work, I also put a light wax finish to make the wood more stable in changing humidity.

well since i passed the 1 yr warranty it could not be replaced. in the first few months i was shooting it into hay stacks and into fields. i started hearing cracking sounds but i thought that it was because of the temp changes and the bow was changing with it(probably was). but they kept happening and sure enough about 1 1/2 yrs later it cracked along the grain. i could still shoot it but there was no more power or acurracy. soon after when i went to string it again, it broke. ive worked with wood alot, especially oak. just never red oak. but now i know that oak is oak. very hard but very britle. not meant for the flex of a bow.

Comments about Medieval Huntsman Hunting Longbow:

After a year of constant use this bow has been c onsistant and more fun than should be legal!.it has not lost any power or speed.follow the oiling or finishing directions and you shouldn't have any problems.I started out oiling it with vasaline when new, waited 6 mo.then used tung oil, tung oil trapped the vasiline in the wood, will use furniture polish from now on.,mine is a 40lb-50lb,recieved a 46 pounder.the B50 flemmish string of 68" works perfect.WELL WORTH THE MONEY!,THANK YOU 3RIVERS.

Comments about Medieval Huntsman Hunting Longbow:

Iforgot to mention, this bow is much thicker than the pictures in the catolog or web.would suggest,i ordered a leather wrap with mine but after seeing and handling it in person i decided to stick with the hemp wrap.oiling per instructions with bow should keep the right amount of moisture in and too much out.this bow is too good to be true for this price!. oiling this bow properly should make it all weather using vasiline also brings out the grain.Thank You 3Rivers!.

This thing is great,I`ve switched from a recurve to this bow,the adjustment wasnt hard at all!If you follow the directions provided with this bow concerning brace heigh and oiling it with vasoline it will serve you well. 6 1/2 inch brace heigh is perfect!the stringer that comes with this bow is a godsendthis is my first primitive bow,and i love medieval history, if you want fun this is your bow, no stacking at all, if you want cosmetic perfection look somewhere else.

Comments about Medieval Huntsman Hunting Longbow:

For its price, this is a very good longbow and one that I would recommend starting with if you are interested in shooting primitive bows. I have had mine for about a year and the construction appears to be holding up despite being stored in a less than ideal way for several months. The hemp grip comes loose easily, but nothing a little wood glue can't fix. If you live in a dry climate you may wish to keep the wood oiled to prevent cracking. The poundage on this bow should make it suitable for hunting in most places as well. I would buy another one with little hesitation.
