      Well made bow. Good instructions included with recommendations for care and maintenance. I sealed this with a polyurethane, and basically just added a slight shine to the wood. Looks very nice.

      I would suggest checking bracing height on this bow. When I asked cust service I found it should be 6" - 7". Initially when testing this out I had some nips right down at my wrist, so resetting the bracing height after sealing the bow is a good idea(my lack of knowledge on the subject could have caused this issue). I did not fire prior to sealing(as recommended), so it may have been fine to start with and I screwed it up when I removed the string to seal it.

      I picked this up for my daughters(12 and 14) to use in SCA archery, and they both seem to like the bow. They are still getting used to it, as they haven't shot a longbow before. As a starter bow, this one is perfect for them to see if they want to pursue it, and as they get older we may upgrade, but this is a good way to economically start. I have a lefty and a righty, so this bow works for both of them.

      My only thought would be to possibly make the grip area just a bit less squared, as for smaller hands, it is a bit awkward, but nothing that can't be overcome with some practice. You definately want a shooting glove to shoot off the knuckle and bracer with this until they get used to the draw style.

        This bow is simply incredible, especially for the price. Yes it's appearance is a bit rough, but it performs great. I happen to be particularly fond of the hand finished look, it fits the character of the weapon. This bow is certainly not something a cub scout could create without knowing a great deal about what they're doing, and being quite a talented scout. Though I did not purchase the bow from three rivers, I did order a new timber hitch B-50 string and stick-on leather grip wrap from them. While not historically accurate to the bow, the grip wrap is comfortable and helps to quickly determine where to grip it (not by the husk). The string was well worth the money also, as the string that it comes with is functional but not exceptional. The B-50 timeber hitch string looks much more natural as well, as the stock string is white and obviously nylon..

            I agree with William the Archer's review. This bow is clunky and looks like it was made by a cub scout troop. It might be worth half the price that they are asking. Maybe.

            It's going to need a lot of work to get it even partially there so, for the first time ever, I'm sending a product back to 3Rivers. Thank you for your return policy.

            I can Not recommend this product for the price asked.

                  This bow just wreaks in tradition! You can imagine yourself in the times of Robin Hood shooting this bow. I am very pleased with the construction and I shoot it both right and left handed, as it has no shelf. Oh, wear a shooting glove! It's wonderful! With a canvas quiver of wood arrows and the right costume, you can be an asset to any reenactment!

                    I purchased this bow as a training tool and as a lightweight kids/youth bow. In these applications it performs well. It would also be good for SCA/reenactors who want a lightweight longbow. Although this bow is not highly polished it is well made. It has a linen backing. If one does not like the cord wrapped handle it can be easily covered up with a long, narrow piece of cloth or deerhide. There was writing on the back of my bow, near the tips. This bow's tips are as wide as it's handle. There is no shelf on this bow. You have to either wear a glove on your bow hand or trim and wrap the front of the fletchings for arrows to be shot from this bow (unless you want a bunch of little cuts on your bow hand). This bow comes with a well made string which does not have a center serving. If this is a concern a 68" dacron flemish twist longbow string with a center serving can be purchased from this site which will fit this bow. Due to the lack of a shelf, arrows for this bow will have to be lighter in spine. With my 26" draw I am using 30" long arrows spined between 15-19# with quite good accuracy out to 15 yards. This bow is not fast, nor is it designed to be. It is a good lightweight primitive/medieval style longbow.
