A great bow.  I buy these for camp and scout troops.  Order a string that is actually 51 inches long.  Dacron not Fast flight or newer nonstretch strings (not good for these bows).  Get continuous loop not flemish spliced.  Its always good to have an extra new one stored in your goody box - just in case.  Cee Bea

Right handed means to hold the bow with the left hand and draw the string with your right hand and using your right eye as your primary sighting eye.  of course you should do an eye dominance test too.  I am right handed and learned to shoot right handed but later found I was left eye dominant and it took a year to re-learn to shoot.  Now, I am ok with either or - ambi-bidextrous?  :)  cee bea

  • Q:

My son is turning 15 and is tall and strong. He is 5'11" with no stopping in sight. Would the model specified for a 16-18 year old be a good fit, and last longer for him?
He is using it for target practice and it would replace the long bow he has been using for years now.
    Thank you for your advice.

My suggestion would be to get him a bow he can use for years.  45# - and I would get him one with more natural colored limbs so if he hunts it won't stand out.  You should try both recurves and long bows.  I make and shoot a long bow much better than a recurve - now others are just the opposite.  It is a fun sport to last a lifetime.  cee bea

It will depend on her age and build. A good starting point would be the 54 inch lenght and 24 @pounds.

My Daughter is also very slim, always in the bottom 10% for her age, she started practicing with a 48" 20lb bow when she was 11 but we ended up purchasing the 54" 24lb bow for her and she handles it just fine.

I would suggest a maximum of 30# and get a nice take down recurve like the one pictured in 3 rivers catalog.  I have 2 of them to go with my longbows when I take out youth groups - one is a 20 # and is only 48 inch long for the younger ones and the other is a longer 30# one for teenagers and young adults.  I hope this helps.  cee bea

  • Q:

My wife has this bow, 54inch 26lbs I believe and we love it. Is the riser the same weight/length/size for the 62inch 32lb model? Or does it get larger with the longer bow?

The biggest thing you will notice when switching to a longer bow is that it is easier to hold back and easier to draw
