can this bow kill a deer?

      A:

This bow is not recommended for hunting deer. You should also check your local/state laws as there may be a minimum poundage the bow needs to be for hunting.

Answered on 11/4/2013 by Sam from 3Rivers Archery

      A:

No, please do not use this bow for hunting. I am not sure what the poundage is on this bow, but the ones my grandchildren use are not nearly sufficient enough to kill a deer.

No.  I would not recommend this bow is not for hunting anything larger than a mouse.

The youth longbow is not suitable for hunting deer. It is too light for
that. It is a great starter bow for little arms. You might be able to shoot
small game at close range, but I would prefer more power even for that. My
niece and nephew (ages 5 and 7) mostly hunt hay bales with theirs.

  • Q:

My Daughter is 6yo. 3'8" tall about 45lbs. Bow should I buy? I have been looking at the Squirt, would that be appropriate? When would I upgrade to say the Pilgrim bow or something else?

What length/size arrows would I need and what kind of bow stringer do you recommend for the bow I will buy? Anything else I need to go with it like a quiver etc??? Thanks for your help.

      A:

The Pilgrim Squirt would probably be the best choice for your daughter. It is difficult to say when you would need to upgrade as it depends on how fast she will grow. I would guess you would probably be looking at a couple of years before she would outgrow it.

I would recommend our 24" Wood Youth Arrows and the Shooting Star bow stringer.
I would also look at a glove/arm guard as well as a quiver. We have several to choose from. Just give us a call and we can help you put the order together.

I purchased two Pilgrim Squirt bows for my two oldest daughters (7 and 4).
The Squirt is the perfect bow for the 7 year old, a little difficult for
the 4 year old to draw but she can just barely manage. They both love the
bows, although the 4 year old gets tired after just a few minutes. I think
the Squirt is a perfect choice for a girl around 6 years of age, plus its a
beautifully built bow and looks great. My oldest is now 8 and has not
outgrown the bow. She is small for her age, but I think it will last her
at least another two years - possibly longer.
      I also purchased the following:
      5/16" Wood Youth Arrows PINK - 28"
      Little Big Quiver
      Childrens Bracers
The quiver and bracers are very traditional looking and my girls (of
course) love the movie "Brave" and like looking like Merida when they
      practice.
I string the bows with the same bow stringer I use for my 65lb Bear
Grizzly and it does the job fine, I think any stringer will work. Hope
      that helps!

Unless she is very strong, I would start her out on the lightest bow you can get. Allowing her to develop good form is the first thing to consider. You want to make this fun for her. If you go too heavy she will not have fun.

I bought the squirt for my son who is 5 years old and about the same
height as your girl. The bow is perfect for him now and I believe will
last him several years at least. I love the bow, as does he. I'm not
sure on the arrow length, but that has to do with their draw length
which is a formula you can find online. My brother bought him the
arrows from a guy he has make all of his. They are wood and have
blunted tips. And his wife made him his quiver.

For that age you will want to get a bow closer to 30# or 35#.

  • Q:

My daughter is 13 and is about 5 ft. She's on the smaller side for her age, so would your recommend the Pilgrim Youth Longbow or a different bow? She's a beginner, so I want to make sure the bow is not too big, but want her to have a little room to grow with it as well. Thanks!

I would recommend going the Pilgrim Buck long bow. It is a 58'' @ 29 pounds this will be a lot better bow for her to grow with.

The bow shouldn't be too big at all, maybe even a little small for her, I
bought it for my 8year old son and he did fine with it, and he is small for
his age, he is a little over 4.2 feet.
Hopefully this will help you on your decision.

  • Q:

I am looking at purchasing a bow for my 7 yr old daughter and 5 year old son. I have no idea where to start. How do you tell which hand, the weights, size, etc they would need?

      A:

For a 7 yr old I would recommend the Pilgrim Longbow at 20-22#@24'' and the Squirt at 10-12@16'' for the 5 year old. You will want to select the hand that they use the most.Ie. right handed you will want to purchase a right handed bow. A right handed bow you will hold in the left hand and draw the string back with the left hand.

34" - good for my 7 year old, but not sure if it is going to work for my 9 year old.

Is this bow waterproof? Should you use it in the rain?

      A:

This bow has a clear coat on it. I would not call it water proof, but it will be fine if it gets a little wet.

Answered on 7/20/2012 by Justin from 3Rivers Archery
    • VERIFIED BUYER

      A:

Rain or shine just watch your arrows if you use real feathers. You may want to wax your sting if you are going to shoot in wet conditions.
