I don't think the leather will succumb but the bigger issue is the degree
of protection you are looking for. I bought this for my wife to use on her
30# recurve and it performed well. When I used it on my 50# recurve I
didn't feel like I had much of a buffer. I have decent calluses but when
you fling 100+ hours in a session, everyone starts to feel it.
For 55# I would recommend going with the traditional glove or a thicker
tab. You could probably add some cheaper backing to this for some better
padding (moleskin maybe?) but buying full price accessories that I know I
will need to modify isn't preferable to me. Hope this helps.
