  • Q:

If I add a 3 GPI weight tube to my arrow do I need to increase the weight of the broadhead as well to balance the weight change or will 100gr head still work?

      A:

If your arrows are well matched to your bow, then you probably won't need to change anything. It may take some testing to see how it effects your setup.

You should be fine with 100gr heads. When I used 3gpi tubes it was for my 80lb compound and I stayed with 100gr heads.

      A:

"Balance the weight change"? You're increasing your shaft weight uniformly by approximately 90 grains. Remember that increasing point weight weakens the spine of your shaft. If your shaft is well matched to your draw weight and length with a 100 grain point, increasing your point weight to say 125 grains may cause arrow flight issues typically associated with a weak spine. Proper spine being critical to good arrow flight for a traditional archer, you can't just arbitrarily change point weights without typically making other adjustments. You can get away with a little more point weight variation with carbon shafts than say wood or aluminum, but there are limits. Still, 90 grains is a pretty good mass weight gain, your arrows will drop faster but they'll penetrate better.

  • Q:

Do I need to have these installed when I am bare shaft tuning my bow?
Asked on 3/29/2014 by turnbow82 from Enid, Ok

    • A:

I recently bare shaft tuned my Longbow. Weight tubes definitely weaken the spine of the shaft. So make sure you stiffen the arrow before you put any tubes in it.

It is not necessary. However I like to have my arrow setup exactly how I'm going to shoot them even with a Wrap minus the feathers

      A:

In my opinion---as long as they will go the full length of the shaft on final assembly, you don't need them in when you bare shaft tune. I would add that when you do insert the weights be sure and put a dab of GOOP or hot melt adhesive on the end of the tube on the nock end. I found that if I didn't the nocks would pop off when they hit the target!

  • Q:

How do you remove weight tubes if the arrows have carbon collars?
    Asked on 7/28/2013 by no

    1 answer

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

From the nock end. If you have nock collars ,it is recommended not to glue them in place. If they are glued, it is impossible to remove weight tubes without first removing the nock collars.

      A:

Yes, they should fit fine. They fit my .244" ID Carbon Express Rebel Hunter and Terminator Hunter 6075 shafts perfectly. The tubes fit just right, but not tight, inside the arrow shaft. I had to use the plier crimping method mentioned on 3RA's website to make them fit tight. The tubes are not exactly 5/16" (.3125") OD. They are slightly less than 1/4" (.250") OD. Hope this helps you out.

      Hi,
I don't know. I use it in my Carbon Express HERITAGE 350 with ID 0.242
so maybe it will be a loose fit.

As far as I could tell, it did not stiffen the spine but it did significantly change the front of center.

I've used them for a few years (3 GPI model) and I've never noticed any
difference in the spine of my arrows. They tune the exact same as those
      without tubes.

      A:

It didn;t seem to stiffen or soften the spine on my arrows. If you cut the
weight tubes in half and glued them in the back of the arrow that would
      stiffen the spine some.
