I have both stones and you can clearly see with a watchmaker's loupe that the purple is the fine sharpener. Talking to other woodworkers this is one of best diamond hones and works best with light strokes. With light strokes, the quality of edge is much better. Others have reported ruining their diamond hones by bearing down hard while sharpening.
