  • Q:

Can I order it in a particular length? I have a short draw and would want the shortest blank possible. Also, can it be tillered down to 35# without the hickory getting too thin?

      A:

They are all roughly the same length in each batch we get. We do not have any set length, nor sort by length. You can cut these down shorter as you like though. I would leave it as long as possible if you are wanting 35# though. Would require less tillering work if it is longer.

The dexterity of a bow is determined by the hand the pulls the string.

  • Q:

Does this bow come with a string and if so what is the string made of? I am familiar with the B-50 string material, will that work with this bow? Thanks, BREEZY46
Asked on 3/7/2012 by BREEZY46 from SACRAMENTO, CA

      A:

No string is included with the Bamboo-Backed Hickory Longbow Blank. A B-50 string would be best for this bow when it is done being built.

I am 6ft6inches tall. What size longbow is best for me.? Weight -- 230 lbs.

      A:

By your height, you should have a long draw length. The longer the draw length the longer the bow will need to be. If you get one of these blanks I would recommend that you make the bow as long as possible.

  • Q:

What length string do i need for this bow?

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

Since it says approx 68" - 72" it is going to vary on the blank you get. Once you receive the blank you need to measure it from tip to tip, then take that measurement and subtract 3 inches. This is the length of string you will need.

  • Q:

bamboo is a great choice for backing as it is tension strong. is it a good choice for backing hickory though, which is not a compression strong wood? especially with a r/d design. is this design prone to failure?

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

We have not had too many problems with this bow. The Bamboo keeps it together through the stress and the Hickory is left wide enough to not have any problems.
