The shape of the clap and the adjustable platform curve the fletching
around the shaft creating a helical fletching arrangement.

    • VERIFIED BUYER

      A:

Yes, this fletcher will do a helical shape. Just make sure that you get
either right wing or left wing. Make sure you order feathers
that correlate with your jig. If you have a left wing jig always get left
wing feather. I use left wing for all my arrows.

      A:

Yes, as long as you select either right wing or left wing. The straight clamp does not have the helical shape.

if you buy the helical clamp it does. You have 3 choices right wing(right
helical), left wing(left helical) and straight. you can also get additional
      clamps

    • VERIFIED BUYER

      A:

The clamp in the illustration allows only helical fletching.  Not knowing your experience level, let me point out that you'll typically have 3 options for fletch type, each requiring a different clamp: Right hand helical, left hand, and straight or slightly angled fletch.

If the above is confusing to you, suggest you contact 3R for further explanation.  This isn't as complicated as it may seem at first.

  • Q:

Left wing clamp means, that if I fletch an arrow, it will make a helical fletch on the shaft in that way, that after release, the arrow will spining to the left ?

      A:

If you use the left wing, or straight clamp with left wing feathers, as
you watch the arrow flying down range from the nock end, it will rotate
counter-clockwise. if you use vanes you can use any clamp. if you have a
right wing clamp you would want right wing feathers.
Both the left and right wing clamps are helical. with the straight clamp
you can use right or left wing feathers, and adjust the offset

The arrow doesn't begin it's spin until beyond the bow, so you can use
either type. Left turns away from a right-hander's riser.

    • VERIFIED BUYER

      A:

Yes, it will cause your arrow to spin. It mainly depends on which feathers you use. If you have left wing feathers, you need a left wing clamp. Right wing clamp for right wing feathers. I use right wing, but I also bought a Straight clamp which can be used on right or left feathers. This is an excellent quality jig, and I have used it to re-fletch all of my arrows. It is simple to use, I had never fletched an arrow prior to using this jig.

Correct. The arrow will spin counter-clockwise with a Left Wing clamp. Only use Left Wing feathers with a left wing clamp.

I sold my BPE shortly after I bought it and went for a Blizenberger so I can't be certain, but believe it would handle 5 1/2" but doubt 6".  I recommend spending the bucks for a Blitzenberger. I know it will handle 5.1/2 but it also will not handle 6".

The 6" may be too much (or at least not as clean on the end). Really depends on how much they offset from the nock. The 5.5" will not be a problem.

    Dear Friends,

I am considering to buy a fletching jig. Please help me decide which one to go between the BPE Pro-Fletcher and Bitzenburger Fletching jig. Which one is more versatile? Which one good for the money. Thank you.

You can't go wrong with the Bitzenburger is been around for years an does a great job. That the only one I use. Its well worth the money.

Answered on 4/25/2012 by Clint from 3Rivers Archery
    • A:

the Bitzenburger is built to last from generation to generation. I believe the BPE has more adjustments. Both are good for the money. The BPE was the right choice for me. If it wasn't an option, or if I was harder on my tools I would have went for the Bitzenburger which is so solidly built.

    • A:

I have a Biitzenburger AND a BPE. Actually, I replaced the BPE with a Bitzen. The BPE is a pain to adjust and I could never seem to get it set right until I'd already screwed up a couple of shafts. Spend the extra bucks and buy a Bitzen.

I want to fletch my own arrows but dont know if I need a right, left or straight jig. I shoot a recurve and am right handed. I also want to know which feathers to use. Thanks

      A:

You can use any of the jigs for your arrows. Just do not mix left wing feathers with a right wing clamp or visa versa. The helical twist determines which way the arrow will spin on the way to the target. As for what feather, the most common feather style and length is 5" shield. Left wing is more popular than right wing as the old belief is right handed shooters should shoot left wing feathers.

Answered on 1/16/2012 by Johnathan Karch from 3Rivers Archery
    • A:

Start with a straight fletch (for practice), using either wing feathers on your arrow. Just don't mix different wings on the same arrow.

Yes. I was equally amazed at how well it adjusts down to the original Beman shafts (have outserts rather than inserts due to narrower shaft diameter).
