Q: What grain broadhead do you recommend for a 45lb bear takedown recurve? I am shooting 125 grain field points on gold tip 3555 with 4" fletching. Answer this question 1 answer A: It will all depend on the tuning of the arrows. There is no set grain weight that is needed for certain arrows or bows. You will want to use the point weight that gives you the best arrow flight. I recommend getting a field point test kit before purchasing any broadheads. The test kit will allow you to try several different weight points with each arrow and find the weight that you will need. Q: I have a bear grizzly at 55#, my arrows are gold tip expedition hunters, and im not exactly sure how heavy they are. My question is if this broadead would fly well from my bow, and if it will give me adequate penetration and speed required for hunting with the arrows im using? I have seen broadheads that will fly like darts out of one bow and cork screw out of another. I would use field points to play with the weight that you need for your arrows and then look for a broadhead of a similar weight. But yeah 55lbs and a beefed up carbon should work well on this 170gr broadhead. Bear Grizzly's are sweet arent they! I bought the field point trial kit from 3 rivers that had several weight points. The 175 grain shot like darts, which led me to these broadheads in a 170 grain. BTW, Im also shooting a 55# Grizzly, but with Beaman 340 grain Bowhunters. Q: I am a staff shooter for Darton Archery and I shoot Both the PRO3000 and the Pro3800. The 3800 is a Pitbull it is soooo fast it is unbelievable I shoot a 440gr arrow at 330fps and it is extremely accurate and Quite.I want to go to a total weight of around 650gr-750gr because I can sacrifice some speed for the Penetrating power I would get from the heavier arrow. would the 2-blade 170gr fly good for me? I am going to the HIT insert arrows like Easton axis or Beman but I am going HEAVY HEAVY HEAVY for my hunting set up and I will be shooting around 65lbs-70lbs, max kill range of about 35-40yds with a heavy set up like this.my 3800 is my tournament bow, But I am going to set it up for a one time bear hunt and want to use the 170gr head you guys offer. Answer this question 1 answer A: The Zwickey Delta broadheads would be a good fit for you, but you may need a stiffer spine if they are not the same weight as you are shooting now. The extra weight on the point of the arrow will make it shoot stiffer and if you are not normally in the 150-170 range now, it will require some retuning of your bow to get them to fly perfect.
