Q: just starting to read about primitive. Never used sinew, thinking of using it to wrap feathers and haft heads. Could I use this glue for the project? If so, what about the waterproof version? or is pine pitch the way to go? Asked on 5/22/2011 by Anonymous Know the answer? Answer this question 1 answer A: Yes, you can use this and the waterproof version for the sinew. The waterproof version does not totally protect the sinew but, it helps. Q: Does this liquid hide glue have an ingredient called retarder. I need to know because retarder slows down the drying of hide glue. Asked on 4/6/2011 by Anonymous Know the answer? Answer this question 2 answers A: I do not have anything that says that there is a retarder in the hide glue. Answered on 4/7/2011 by Justin from 3Rivers Archery A: There have been many reports of titebond's brand of liquid hideglue drying extremely slowly, so I would suspect that it does have some type of additives to keep it from drying completely in the bottle. I have heard numerous times that this is especially true when the glue is past it's expiration date. According to many Bowyers, this is not something you want to sinew back your bow with. If you are backing a bow with sinew, you can always save your scraps after breaking out the sinew and make very good quality hideglue from those. In fact, it is entirely possible that it will be better quality than the granulated hideglue you see sold in the can, as supposedly granulated hideglue is made from not only hides but bones as well, which (once again, "supposedly") makes a little less quality glue than pure hide (or sinew). On the flip side, Knox gelatin is made from bone scraps as well as pig skins, and it can be used to made a very strong hideglue believe it or not! Collagen is Collagen.
