To simply tell you which end of the bow is the top and the bottom.
Two notches is the top of the bow.
This makes a difference when you string the bow as the string loops are different size.
The large loop goes to the top when you string the bow.
After you have strung the bow it will look more obvious as the top end of the bow is longer than the bottom.
Make sure you use a proper stringer that will not put too much force on the horn tips.
The tips on this bow are not as fragile as other traditional english longbows.
