100 grain for Arrow Dynamics
By treenerd from Mississippi on 11/9/2009
Pros:
Accurate, Consistent, Durable, Easy To Use
Cons:

Best Uses:

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Solid Brass Inserts NEW SIZES:

I have used this product on gold tips and CX heritage and been extremely happy. Bought a dozen arrow dynamics tapered arrows and ordered the 100 grain inserts for them. My local archery shop cut and installed the inserts, and I was upset because the outside diameter of the inserts is WAY bigger than the OD of my arrow shafts and the ferrule of my broadheads. This must decrease penetration which defeats the purpose of me geting these inserts.

bought these to add weight to my carbon arrows that I was using with my long bow..they did not help the long bow situation so I am staying with cedar ..however ..I tried a few of them on the carbon arrows I use with my recurve and am extrmely pleased with the resulting increase in penetration, stability and bow silence

Comments about Solid Brass Inserts NEW SIZES:

I bought these to give some "punch" to a set of arrows I bought. I bought six arrows and three have failed. Two in a bag target.

Let me say that 3Rivers built my arrows from top to bottom. I will not send them back because they are the best flying arrows I've had and don't want to be without them.

I'll repair as needed.

I'm not sure if it's the weight of the insert or not. They are coming loose. Two inside of bag targets. I had a third loosen tonight. I don't know if they are using the same epoxy for heavy inserts or not. I'm sure they will correct this. This is what they do and why they ask us to speak up.

They are a great tool. I just recommend you install them with a trusted adhesive that doesn't give in a bag.

Comments about Solid Brass Inserts NEW SIZES:

I wanted to toughen up the front end of my arrows while adding weight. I often put a .243 bullet in behind the insert to add the 100 grains i like up front, but still had the aluminum insert at the front end which would sometimes mush the end of the arrow if I hit something hard. We'll see how these do, I may have been better off using the collars that are sold for that purpose.

Comments about Solid Brass Inserts NEW SIZES:

This product makes tuning your arrow a whole lot easier. I shoot longbows and they like a weaker spine to shoot straight. Heavier points are bigger than the shaft diameter and tear up targets and are hard to pull. By using these inserts I was able to get more weight in the arrow and adjust the spine just the way I wanted.

Comments about Solid Brass Inserts NEW SIZES:

I purchased these brass inserts because I wanted to increase the weight of my arrows. For me, I found that the 100 grain inserts added a little more weight than I really wanted. I wish the brass inserts were 50 grains instead of 100 grains. I'm use to a little lighter arrow weight, somewhere around 480 - 490 grains of arrow weight.

Comments about Solid Brass Inserts NEW SIZES:

These work very well. I use GT3555 carbon arrows and they allow me bump up the weight. I shoot 55# @ 28 and the heavy front of center weight flight characteristics provide tighter groups and are less prone to wind drift. I also use the 3gr/inch weight tubes. 125gr points, 100gr brass insert, shaft, weight tube, fletch and knock gives me about 560 grains total. That's just over 10gr/lb which is great for 3d and hunting. Make sure you scuff the inside of the shaft before glueing.

Comments about Solid Brass Inserts NEW SIZES:

The solid brass inserts are easy to use compared to other products I have used in the past. I just started using the new carbon wood grain traditional arrows in the past year, and found them all to be too light for good penetration and also to eliminate hand shock and to quiet the bow. I wanted the finished arrows to weigh around 470 to 480 grain, similar to the cedar arrows I used to shoot. I used the insert tubes for a while, but didn't like them pushing out the nock and coming out when I missed a target. Plus I wanted to put all of the weight forward. Shooting a 55 lb. recurve at 27 inch draw, I found through trial & error, that I needed 205 to 210 grains at the tip, that will include my 145 gr. field points & 150 gr. broadhead. Using the 100 gr. brass insert, I cut them all down to 60 grins to get the weight I needed. Using this combination my finished weight is 475 grains. The bow shoots quiet, penetration is very good, and the arrow flight is the best I've ever had. I have others doing this now, & they can't believe the difference. Remember speed is less important than arrow flight & performance. Your arrows need to hit hard, and penetrate deep. Every bow will shoot a little different so experiment. I started with the 100 gr. and kept cutting it down till I received my best flight results. Remember what broadhead you want to shoot, then choose a field point that is the same weight or very close. Then do all your arrows the same. I've been hunting with bow for over 40 years now, so this weight forward idea isn’t new. The old timers have known this for years.

Comments about Solid Brass Inserts NEW SIZES:

The Muzzy Brass inserts are a great option for those of us that like to shoot carbon but look for the heavier arrows. Only thing to remember is that you may have to jump up to the next spine some times depending on the bow that you are shooting. The one bad thing that i ran into with the inserts is getting them in and set with the hit insert glue (15 min set time) was hard to do. I recomend using 24 hr epoxy for this process. Good Luck and Keep Them in the Center.

Comments about Solid Brass Inserts NEW SIZES:

I bought these inserts to add weight and durability to my arrows. They work great. I like a lot of weight in the front of my arrows, so these are better than weight tubes, for me. These inserts are also more durable than the stock aluminum ones. Being longer than the stock inserts adds to arrow durability as well. The only way they could be better, for me, would be if they were made of steel.

Comments about Solid Brass Inserts NEW SIZES:

These are great for bumping up FOC on carbon arrows. I am satisfied with them, but feel they could fit a bit more snug inside the shaft, especially for those shooting fixed blade heads where insert/shaft alignment is critical. I shoot mechanical heads so it isn't a big issue for me. I experienced the same semi-sloppy fit on both Beman ICS Hunters as well as Carbon Express Maxima shafts. It's not a horrible fit, so don't read into it that way, but they definately do not fit like the inserts that came with the shafts.

Comments about Solid Brass Inserts NEW SIZES:

When I switched to Gold tip carbons my 60 lb bows started twanging very noisely. I was told by a very known bower that perhaps I was shooting too light an arrow. We weighted one and it only weighted 450 grs. He told me I should be shooting at least 550 to 600 gr. arrows. So I inserted heavier inserts and points which made my bows shoot with less noise. My speed is not as much but the flight is much more stable and penetration seems to be a lot better. I have since got two of my buddies to do the same and they too are also pleased with the results.

Pros:
Accurate, Durable, Very Straight, Well Crafted
Best Uses:

Comments about Solid Brass Inserts NEW SIZES:

These inserts worked great for my setup to help maintain proper FOC and still shoot some of the 100 grain heads on the market. They also worked well to add tip weight on some arrows that were slightly overspined. The only con for me is that the flange extends slightly past my arrow shaft which makes them a little hard to pull from the target, I may add a small bead of glue to smooth the transition.

Comments about Solid Brass Inserts NEW SIZES:

Brass inserts fit perfectly into carbon shafts, and seem to be a great way to increase overall arrow weight and front-of-center weighting. I've used them in conjunction with short sections of weight tubes epoxied in behind the insert to get my total arrow weight to 650 grains, and about 20% front-of-center arrow weighting.

Comments about Solid Brass Inserts NEW SIZES:

I use both the 5/16 brass muzzy inserts and the axis diameter for my Beman MFX classics...when you shoot a short draw like I do you need to not only have weight but be able to weaken the shaft back up after cutting so much off...these inserts allow me to have only 1 inch of arrow out front of my bow.. and being a "gap" shooter or point of aim that works out terrific...not to mention the extra weight forward giving you tighter groups... A great product.

Brass Inserts Do the Job
By Kevin from Fallbrook, Ca on 10/9/2007
Pros:
Accurate, Well Crafted
Describe Yourself:
Recreational Archer
Bottom Line:

Comments about Solid Brass Inserts NEW SIZES:

All of the inserts weighed the same - 98 grains. The only improvement would be putting a taper on the external portion to match the shafts better. The ridge makes pulling from the target less smooth than it could be. Don't let that stop you though, these inserts are nice.

These allow me to shoot Carbon Express 350's (which spine at about 100#) from my 55# Savannah Longbow. The extra tip weight coupled with a longer shaft, lowers the dynamic spine. Now I have a hefty 650 gr hunting arrow for that extra penetration.
