These guys show you a variety of ways to make a Flemish string. One thing they DON'T show you is the simplest way of making one. They show variations but not the basic process. That's okay for me, but someone brand new to making them might be confused. They do show a lot but I would have done a better job of editing. Although they try to give it a "downhome" feel, I feel it detracts after a the first few times.

String making instructions were clear and effective. Different camera angles helped in understanding the process. The two guys were very versed in string making. I watched the video once and made a string along with it the 2nd time around that came out pretty good. The audio is good, only once does the wind muffle one microphone but it does not override the sound. Two Thumbs Up!
Comments about Doing the Twist - String Building DVD:
he production quality is pathetic. They mumble through some basic instructions while the wind blows into the mic and the shakey camera focuses on their face instead of their fingers (when it focuses at all). Oh, and 3rivers sends it on a burned homemade DVD so don't expect it to play on all DVD players... or in 10 years down the road when the disc fails from age. How about some use of technology like maybe some simple animations or something? The information provided may be of use to someone that knows some basics and just wants to see someone else's technique. If this were offered free with a kit or for a few bucks I wouldn't have an issue- but paying $[$] for a dvd of this quality is unacceptable.
Comments about Doing the Twist - String Building DVD:
I have seen other videos on making Flemish strings and none of them come close to this one. Chad and Joe have produced an excellent video: instructional, informative and friendly. Clearly they were mindful of how intimidating this process can be for beginners and thus have spared no details in their step by step instructions; this includes highlighting, within those steps, some of the things can go wrong if you don't do exactly as instructed. My first string turned out near-perfect. This video is the next best thing to having Chad and Joe in your own backyard, showing you the ropes. In fact, I'd be happy to spring for the beer and snacks if that were possible! 5 stars from this end.
