the 5.5 are best for hunting if you shoot 55lbs + , slows arrow slightly but the arrow recovers from a bad release amazingly they also make it easyer to see were you hit an animal

There are many "big-name" sporting goods stores around me, but none carry feathers. They all cater mostly to compound bows and plastic vanes. There were a couple of archery ranges who had a small supply on hand and could get more but they have all gone out of business. I shoot recurves and I like the look of traditional feathers. I also make my own bowstrings and bow tip protectors. I had to go to the Internet to find supplies that I needed and found them on your site. You are the best! Over the last few years I have made a few dozen arrows using the TrueFlight feathers you offer and a few bowstrings using the server, threads, and Liquid Lock I purchased from you. Simply a great feather fletch. Unfortunately the feathers are unmarked and they arrive in a 3Rivers bag so you don't know for sure you are getting a TrueFlight feather. However I have no reason to believe they sent me anything other than what I ordered. My concern is I was recently informed by a local archery shop pro that TrueFlight has released a line of feathers that are "Certified Clean and Safe" as some feather fletchings have tested positive for "Bird Flu". I did not see any notification of this on the web site. So I am not sure if the feathers I ordered are "Certified" or not. I will have to call 3Rivers to find out.

I have purchased these twice from 3 Rivers, and each time they are perfect. I haven't found any that I cannot use, even in the 100 count pack. Great product, and the barred feathers look authentic! Other brands of barred feathers leave much to be desired aesthetically.

I normally use 5" feathers because 5.5" feathers are 'too long' measured from the back of the bow and to the bowstring. An arrow shot with these feathers 50 times a week is still fine after one or two years! Very durable.

This product is very close to the real thing which I also make for myself on occasion. The natural colors of the tradition barred feathers blend into the hunting woods very well. They are very durable and hold up well with lots of practice shots. Ihave found nothing to complain about with this product. I highly recommend them if you want traditional without the hard work.

When a guy fletches his own arrows, it's because he has something special in mind. I ordered several dozen 5 1/2" RW barred shields in traditional, and a couple of different barred colors. ALL of the feathers were SUPERIOR except the red barred. Although the packages were all marked 5 1/2", the red barred feathers were all smaller and shorter than the other colors. I won't order the red barred 5 1/2" shields again. It's important to point out that the other colors I ordered were spectacular!

I have used 5in. feathers (parabolic & shield cut) for the past 13yr. For the last 6yrs I've gone to strickly 5in. shield cut and do not plan to use anything else. They fly excellent with an 1&1/4in. fixed blade broad head, which is what I hunt with. I shoot a compound, but I shoot fingers, and I think the 5in. shields are really forgiving. The only draw backs I can add are that they are a little expensive (barred) and they don't like hunting in the rain!!

Good color selection, long lasting color does not fade. I just bought some new Trueflights to make up a dozen arrows. I had some white feathers from Trueflight that are about 15 years old, and I can see the quality has gone down. Used to fletch my first dozen arrows. First couple arrows were hard because the Bohning glue takes too long to dry... Best thing I found was to first use to attach to arrow with a little super glue then add the Bohning stuff afterwards. Havent had a fletch come off yet and I shoot off my hand! The feathers are used for hunting, 3D, and practice. The arrows are bare shaft tuned. The feathers are applied smoothly with quality jigs, using minimal helical. I have been happy with quill flexibility, width, and consistency. Also, color consistency has been very good. My concern is the number of very coarse feathers that I have been receiving. The coarse vanes break down rapidly, look bad, and don't do a thing for good flight. In the last bag of 100 there were 8 to 10 feathers with very coarse vanes that could not be used. Please help. Great feathers! Applied using the Arizone EZ fletch and Bohnings platinum flteching cement. I have the 5.5" feathers. Beautifully crafted and amazingly accurate. I never thought the half inch would make a difference at all. I was mistaken. Provided the arrow be of the correct spine and length, these feathers will giude it to the target everytime. The amount of "spin" (not sure what techinical term is) is amazing. My only problem is that them do come off when shot through coke cans and the like. But this is commonplace with all arrow vanes/feathers I have used. Terrific product!!!!!!!

This was my first effort to re-fletch/fletch arrows. I used an 6 degree helical jig (that sets all three feathers at once) with cyanoacrylate glue. I didn't have any accelerant for the glue - and it is humidity sensitive - when it was high the glue sets quickly, but slows down considerably when the humidity was low ( about a minute vs 5 minutes to set enough to take out of the jig).
The shafts were stripped of their stock vanes( I ruined one cutting a bit into the carbon with the razor - be careful) and prepared with some 1000 grit paper. The jig is really practically idiot-proof ( with myself as the test subject) but not as quick as claimed. You have to move the feathers back and forth some to get them flush in the jig.
I used toe-nail clippers to trim the quill irregularities on the feathers (I did it on all of them so I would have a uniform base in the jig).
There is a noticeable weight difference - even in your hand - between holding three feathers and three vanes. When I shot them through a chronograph (70 pound compound, 30 inch draw, 100 grain point, 350 shaft - total weight about 420 grains) they showed 300 fps +/- 3 fps.
Accuracy is relative - I've only been shooting for about 6 months and at 25 yards I get groups from 2 inches to off-target if I'm tired, but these seemed somewhat better than vanes (they look a lot better). I shoot only the broadheads now - I'm only going to hunt with the bow and the broadheads and field-points hit at significantly different places despite the claims of the maker. The obvious downside to shooting them is that I ruin target blocks quickly (also despite the maker's claims).
One big difference between the feathers and vanes is on pass-through shots - the vanes tend to warp in a sinusoidal pattern that you can take out with a hairdryer, the feathers loose some of their mass (you can see through them when held to the light).
Overall, It's been a fun, easy to do experiment. I like the look of the feathers a lot more and will probably stick with feathers and re-fletching as needed. Hope this helps someone thinking about it.
