New: We just added a new low profile banana chopper to the list. Like the regular hi-back banana chopper the feather base is 5 3/4", but the feather height is approx 3/4" tall instead of the 7/8" of the hi-back banana chopper. Now you can chop your own arrow feathers with a "Little Chopper" feather trimmer and choose from many different shapes and sizes. Little Chopper feather die-cutters chop die cut feathers from pre-ground full length feathers. We recommend Trueflight feathers, but these choppers will work with any pre-ground feather out there. Sometimes you can even get two feathers from one full length feather! Quality construction with hardened blade lasts for years. It's fun to chop your own feathers!
  • Many shapes and sizes to choose from
  • Quality construction that will last years
  • Use any pre-ground feathers (Click arrow for feather chopping demo.)

    Comments about Feather Choppers:

I bought the right-hand traditional chopper because I got tired of the fletching style I could get locally (and I had a bag of goose feathers I picked up over a year ago). I must say, when that first feather popped out it was cool. There is some getting use to it with the quill alignment but that is not an issue. I did, however, cringe when the blade was smacked against the bottom metal plate so I went to the local craft store and bought a linoleum block of similar size to replace the bottom plate with. Works just as well, but now I don't cringe every time I use it. Was this a worthy investment? I just received the left-hand traditional chopper so I can use both sides of the quill more efficiently and the other half of the bag o'feathers that ended up not being right wing.

3 Rivers Archery has never disappointed me.
Shipping costs to Alaska can sometimes be excessive. Other companies I have dealt with seem to discourage my business by not being reasonable with their shipping and handling charges. I feel that I am treated like they want my repeat business --- and they get it!

    Comments about Feather Choppers:

The chopper produces uniform fletches that result in consistancy in appearance and performance. You can produce batches of fletches to have on hand or punch them out as needed. There are a nice variety of shapes and all produce a professional look. It is easy to use but care should be excercised since the blade is sharp!

This chopper has worked out much better than the low profile banana chopper with the goose feathers that I've used.Nothing wrong with that chopper, just that goose feathers aren't of real high quality but they are free. And with this 4" chopper and paper tuning, the fletchings that I put on the Gamegetters I got for my birthday make for perfect arrows

    Comments about Feather Choppers:

After reading an article in Traditional Bowhunter magazine about making your own feathers, i wanted to give it a try. I had saved the wings from the last few wild turkeys I'd taken, so I had plenty of feathers to work with. The Little Chopper was by far the easiest part of the process. After the feather is cut to size, and the quill ground down, just place the feather in the little Chopper on the guide, close the cover, (carefully, the blade is sharp!) and whack it with a mallet, and presto, perfect, consistent natural barred turkey feathers. One additional benefit of the banana chopper, you can cut either right or left wing feathers with it.

    Comments about Feather Choppers:

First time ever using it takes a little care to get a Quality even cut. You can not be afraid of striking with a hard rubber dead blow hammer. It is durable. Your best lighting is a plus and you need a solid workspace. I was able to get two feathers cut from some of the full length feathers. I had a little trouble with some feathers at the rear cut off and had to use the sissors to finish the cut. I bought a feather burner which I will probabily never use now that I have these choppers. My sawed off level tree stump in the bright sunlight worked best as a solid workbench.

To me, a more useful size than the larger banana chopper. Still produces a large fletching but not out of proportion. I used goose feathers and Goldtip traditional woodgrain shafts with a reflective wrap for a handsome set of arrows that got a lot of compliments at the 3D shoot this weekend. Thanks.

    Comments about Feather Choppers:

I have purchased four feather choppers so far and have found them all to work well. The choices in fletching shapes allow you to experiment to find what fletching works best for different uses. The "Traditional" and "Pope and Young" (Raptor) fletchings have an appropriate look for historic recreation, similar enough to the war arrow to convey a historic look (and they shoot very well out of my longbow too, at short to medium range). Does a flag-tail fletching work better on a large English longbow? I think so! It sure beats the smell of burning feathers!

    Comments about Feather Choppers:

I have been fletching for nearly 20 years and have always used pre-cut feathers until now. I doubt that I will go back! The Feather Chopper has delivered consistent excellent results, giving me a real feeling of excellence in the resulting fletching. I had thought it would be a royal pain to cut my own feathers, but this tool made it incredibly easy.

I have gotten great arrow flight from the fletching I have chopped. It also works for cutting 3" fletching for my kid's arrows, which makes the waste on my full length feathers almost zero. I purchased the 5" sheild chopper and I will most definately purchase another of a differant shape.

    Comments about Feather Choppers:

A 'must have' for anyone who likes to make their own customized arrows. Easy to use as well as durable and it comes in shapes that are not readily available as pre-cut feathers. More often than not I can even get two flights out of one full length feather. By doing that this handy little gadget will eventually even 'pay for itself'... It doesn't get much better than that.

    Comments about Feather Choppers:

I actually purchased these two choppers to use on vanes. I use 4 inch vanes and my son uses 3 inch. I obtained a couple of thousand 5 inch vanes on Ebay a while back in a bulk buy with other size vanes and wasn't sure what I was going to do with them. The choppers solved the problem. They clip the vanes off to the perfect length. And the price was perfect as well. I'm delighted, I've already converted a couple hundred of the 5 inch vanes to 4 inch and they work perfect. I know the choppers are made for feathers but they work just as well on vanes. Bill P.

    Comments about Feather Choppers:

Recently I brought my 11 year old daughter on a turkey hunt, which ended in a 37 lb Tom and a load of flight feathers. She has been asking to build arrows the 'old way' but I don't have much time for tying, cutting with scissors, etc. The "Little Chopper" sure came in handy, and fast, when fixin' to cut the fletches. I am fond of the 'Traditional' style chopper, as it is esthetically pleasing and controls the arrow well without diminishing speed. I would surely recommend this product to any and all archers.
