A good taper is always important, and you'll get just that with this tool. It works much better, I find, on softer woods, like cedar, but I've used it successfully on material as hard as purple heart, though it does take some doing to get it to cut nicely.

Its really wonderful when you are using it for the nocks but the tip side is not as accurate it leaves gaps behind the point and makes the tips a little insecure at times.

I use this product for arrow building. For its price, it's a good deal and works alright. I don't know if its just this one, or if they are all like this, but the 11 degree angle doesn't cut very well at all.

Some of the reviews I read on this product were less than favorable but I did not find that to be the case. I've only done 1 dozen arrows with it so far but I see no reason why it wouldn't do many more with proper use. I ordered 2 but I don't see needing the spare for quite some time. Unless you're in the business of making arrows I would see no need to spend more than the few dollars this taper tool costs. A great product from 3Rivers.

The nock taper did its job fine it was the point taper that was all boogerd up. I found that there was a bad part in the casting. Even after removing this plastic with a razor I still had problems. The razor would take huge chunks of wood off and leave a very nasty looking taper. The big problems came when I tried to attatch my points. They would not go on straight due to the uneven taper. Completely ruined one dozen arrows.

I ordered the 11/32 to use based on the reviews.Product work very well for 18 arrows,then it just stopped working.I guess for the price you shouldnt expect it to last long.So bottom line,if you need to taper 12-18 arrows it well work great.

5/16" tool works fine. But 11/32" tool does not work. It chews up wood. It's not the blades. They work fine when I installed them on another brand taper tool. Even when I installed new blades that worked fine in another tool, it still chews up wood. It is possible that the installation holes are in the wrong places. But I suspect the design is defective.

this is an old product with the Three Rivers name on it- which is a good thing.
These taper tools work perfectly on wood such as cedar and other soft woods- for ash etc. they are not the ideal tool. This is not the fault of the tool; it is just the harder shafts.

Handy and perfect for its purpose. Admittedly useless to have on the range if you don't have a spare point and glue with you, but i broke off a field tip trying to pull an arrow out of a wooden target this weekend and had a new tip on in a minute because the tool was in my quiver pouch.

It's also totally accurate enough to use when making arrows at home. I made twelve new practice shafts with this thing and they are range-tested and work fine.

I was dissapointed with this product, but 3Rivers customer service has more than made up for it. The day I wrote my review, I was contacted by a representative. He asked me to eplain exactly why I was dissapointed in the product. After letting him know what had happened, he not only apologised, but he also said that I would have a replacement sent to me, free of charge! He said that he himself would test it before shipment to make sure that it was up to snuff. More companies should have this sort of customer service. Many of the companies out there could learn a thing or two from these guys. I will continue to shop with 3Rivers due to this and past experiances with them.

This is the best cutting hand tapering tool I have used. I have several other brands, but nothing that compares to this. Its incredibly sharp and makes fast smooth cuts.

This taper tool was better than expected....yes it is plastic and disposable.....but for hobbist....and a quick fix in the field they are great....I have spent a lot more for not near as good....if you shoot wood....don't leave home with out one!!!!! fine product....wish i would have thought of it....

if you use woods you have to carry one or two in the field they are small and can do many many shafts before they give up and very light to carry in pocket or pack.when you need one you will thak your stars you have this little wonder.

23/64 sharpener:
I found this item to be non-functional. The tip sharpener would not stay in adjustment to make a cut. Also, both the nock and tip holes are on the same end of the tool making it very easy to cut the wrong taper.

This item needed to be adjusted, sharpened and clean out some plastic flashing inorder to work. the size is nice, but is not as good and accurate as the v-groove taper block.

The point taper blade had an imperfection that needed to be removed. Once it was removed, the taper tool effectively created point end tapers. I have not yet needed it to create nock end tapers, however, I used it to verify the existing nock end tapers that were on my shafts. I found that they matched.

I repair my broken arrows. The price was right so I bought it. I just wish I would have put the money towards the Tru-Center Taper Tool. My friend has one and it fits my hand. Don't get me wrong the Accurate Taper works and there is a big price difference. You get what you pay for and I hope it lasts until I can upgrade [$]

I have been making my own arrows for a few years. This little tool is very easy to use (I tried the other more expensive tapering tool - couldn't understand how to use it) and it works well. It's possible to make many dozens of arrows before having to replace the tool due to dulling the blade. I'm glad 3Rivers has decided to restock these little helpers.

Great for cedar shafts, but was unable to taper laminated birch. I had to use a disc sander. A great little tool, with just that one limitation.

This taper tool did an excellent job on the point tapers, but would not work well for the nock tapers. It would rip and shred the wood instead of cutting. I tried it on cedar and spruce arrows.

I was a little surprised at the light construction, but it is a very sturdy tool. The nock end worked great and did the first 1/2 dozen shafts perfectly and quickly. I wrestled with the point end for about 10 minutes before I finally took the blade off and discovered a piece of plastic from the moulding process was covering the top part of the blade. Took a couple of seconds to remove, then the tool worked better, but still not great. If the point end worked as well as the nock end, it would be a great tool. It may be this particular tool didn't fit the mold exactly right.

First I had to adjust the blades in order for it to cut. The tapers were ragged. I had to be careful to ensure that the tapers were straight. This tool should not be advertised for arrow building but only for field repairs.

The first one I received was junk: the nock taper was fine, the point worked three times, then never again. I emailed 3Rivers, and unexpectedly received a call-back. They showed genuine concern for their products and I received a replacement 3 days later. The new one works just as described.

The piling taper worked well. The nock taper was too tight, the blade too dull, and the blisters on my fingers from tapering a doz shafts made me wonder why I didn't purchase the "good" one in the first place. Not recommended.

This product is for tapering wooden shafts. It can roughly achieve a taper which needs additional hand-sanding. It would be better with sharper blades (better quality steel blades) at more precise angles.

This taper tool is good if doing just a couple of cedar arrows at a time. It works like a kid's pencil sharpener, but is quite accurate. The point taper tool could be longer for more surface to surface contact with field point or broadhead.

Even though the arthritis in my hands causes pain when working with most small tools, these little gizmos didn't seem to bother them. They are large enough to handily grip and cut perfect tapers. I think they cut better tapers than the more expensive tools. I bought one for 11/32's and one for 5/16's and would recommend them to everyone.
